How to store spices for Longer time

below are few things to be kept in mind while storing spices

Buy whole spices

Whole spices remain fresh for longer than grounded spices and there is less fear of spoilage. Spices like nutmeg, cumin, black pepper, cloves, cinnamon, fenugreek etc. can easily purchase in large quantities and then they can be grinded and used for a longer time period as required.

Buy only the necessary spices

Do not buy more spices together, buy as much as you need. Keeping grounded spices for a long time also worsens their taste and may have to be discarded, it would be better to buy whole and essential spices. Whole spices can last up to 4 years and some herbs up to 1-3 years.

Keep in a cool place

Always keep spices away from direct sunlight when storing them, it is good to keep them in a cool & dry place. Whole spices can be stored in the refrigerator as well, However, as long as the dried herbs and spices are kept in an air tight container.It is okay to keep a large amount of herbs in the freezer.

Keep dry

When storing spices, always keep them in a dry jar so that the spices do not become moist

It is wrong if it is think that the spices never go bad. All kind of spices and hubs lose their strength and taste over time. You can identify it by smelling it and seeing its color. Sometimes the spices also deteriorate because of moisture so do not use such spices and they should be replaced immediately.

Always keep it closed

Always keep the spices closed in airtight container so that they do not become moist and also do not cause bugs.

  6.  Cumin – beneficial for digestion and diabetes prevention
  7. Garlic – an antioxidant and good for making garlic powder
  8. Ginger – helps with nausea and abdominal pain
  9. Onions – many convenient forms: dried, crusted, granulated, powdered, sliced
  10.  Oregano
  11. Mustard powder
  12. Carom seeds
  13. Turmeric root
  14. Kasoori methi
  15. Salt – an important storage item.
